Starting April 2008 – Short Term Contract and Freelance Opportunities

Slingshot Theatre Company is a professional Christian theatre company and part of the Saltmine Trust. Founded in 1985, Saltmine’s theatre companies are now recognised as some of the leading theatre companies in its field. At the heart of Slingshot’s work is a desire for excellence and a belief in the power of theatre to improve lives. The company consists of professional actors with skills and experience in many styles of theatre and workshop leading.

The successful applicant should be a confident and experienced performer who is able to demonstrate versatility as an actor in a variety of roles. The newly appointed actor would be expected to perform in all of the productions in repertoire and may be called upon to assist with creation of new material. Team members will be expected to contribute fully to life within the Saltmine Trust, and the opportunities this will present.

The Theatre Company is based in Dudley, West Midlands (accommodation available) and operate nationally in mainstream theatres, schools and churches. The short-term contract is from April to July 2008 and the freelance contract from April to May 2008. 

This post is salaried, however team members will be required to assist in fund raising through personal support. This is not intended to come from the applicants themselves, rather their friends, family or specifically their local church.  Saltmine Trust will give assistance in this part of the job and it should in no way be seen as a barrier to application. Salary is unaffected by support levels.

Saltmine Technical Manager

Saltmine Trust is a first class creative charity, which spreads the gospel through creative arts.  We are seeking a full-time manager for our technical services department.  Saltmine Technical Services supports Saltmine’s three touring theatre companies as well as external clients with complete sound, lighting and video solutions. This is an opportunity to use your gifts and experience to serve the Kingdom in a dynamic way.

The successful applicant will be innovative, creative, able to solve problems and able to work calmly and efficiently under pressure and tight deadlines. They will be logical, methodical, organised and able to support and manage a team of full time and gap year technicians. They will have excellent knowledge and experience of sound, lighting and video systems and theatre experience is preferred.

The responsibilities of the technical manager include ensuring the Creative Arts Division is served with technical support, providing technical guidance and expertise for the Creative Teams, managing the technical team and the health, safety and development of its members.  The manager will also ensure equipment is maintained, serviced and kept up to date, manage the technical budget, seek external sources of income and build and maintain good relationships with suppliers.

The team is based in Dudley, West Midlands and operate nationally in theatres, schools, churches and other performance spaces.

A successful applicant is expected to raise £4000 support per year.  Saltmine Trust will help any successful applicant to raise their own personal support, providing them with the training, resources and expertise in this area and it should in no way be seen as a barrier to application. Salary is not affected by support levels.

Would you like to support Saltmine in a practical way?

We are currently seeking local volunteers (aged 16+) to form part of a vital team to help us promote Saltmine to the wider community.

What could you be doing?

  • Stewarding at Saltmine events
  • Assisting with the mailing of promotional materials
  • Helping with general office duties at St James House
  • Working with the Admin Team at St James House
  • Assisting Saltmine staff at Christian conferences
    and exhibitions (like Spring Harvest & CRE)

(Some of the above could be home-based if more convenient!)
